Regional decisions emanating from Arab conventions & the ADEGN

1-    On the occasion of the 8th UNCSGN held in Berlin in 2002, the ADEGN agreed on modifications to the transposition of the Arab alphabet in geographical names to it’s equivalent in Roman alphabet adopted in the “Beirut System” (Ref Romanization System – Berlin 2002).

2-    On the occasion of the 22nd cycle of Experts on Geographic Names held in Vienna (April 2006), the Arab experts present agreed on convening in Beirut. Brg. Gen Maroun Khraish was asked to prepare for the conference aimed at discussing & adopting the Unified Arab System. The conference that was due on the 11th & 12th March 2007 was postponed to the 30th & 31st May 2007 after express demand from Dr Anwar Siala, president of the ADEGN, and other Arab experts.

3-    Minutes of the ADEGN’s meeting on the occasion of the Basic Course on Geographic Appellations arranged by the African Organization For Maps & Remote Sensing held in Tunisia (2-6 April 2007).

4-    On occasion of the 9th UNCSGN held in New York in 2007, heads of several geographic institutions and experts working in the field (complete list in Annex) met on the 29th Aug. in a working session presided by the Lebanese delegate, Brig. Gen. Maroun Khraish.
